On Being an Artist

Inspiration. Love. Joy. Happiness. ...Sometimes sorrow.

Most of my works "happen." There's a rise in me that demands release, and, when I pay attention, when I drop everything and pull out a piece of paper, a canvas, some clay, or an e-canvas, and let it out, marvelous, wonderful things form through my hands. It's love. It's a love affair. It's joy. That's what it's like being an artist.

About My Art

It's about impressions of moment. It's about feelings. It's an action that speaks through me. It's my perceptions about the world, or about a situation, or even, maybe, about myself. It's everlasting, but it's also transitory. Some people love it; others despise it...and me. Either way, that's okay. I've never been one who receives less than either love or hate. There's no middle ground in people's reactions to me or to my artwork. In fact, the only middle ground I ever hold is with my politics. :D
